A must-see for cosplay beginners [Cosplay Color Contacts] Can’t get them off your hands?! How to apply and remove!

Columns / Essays

This article is for cosplay beginners. When you start cosplaying, you’ll probably start off cosplay with no contacts or colored contacts, but eventually there may be a time to try them on! We’ll introduce how to wear good contacts that “don’t fall off your hand (fingers)”, which is the most common problem when applying contacts.

First, go to an ophthalmologist and then buy contacts

When using contacts, you’ll need to see an ophthalmologist in advance. The eyes are a very important part of the body. Please think calmly as you’ll be putting an object directly in your eye! People with poor eyesight have little resistance since they may commonly use contacts, but for people with good eyesight, it will feel punishing.

What do you do in ophthalmology?

What do you do when you go to the ophthalmologist?

It’s roughly like this, but sometimes you’ll be asked if you filled out a paper or see a clerk when purchasing colored contacts. Honestly, I recommend you just practice wearing contacts at the hospital, and you’ll be able to put them on smoothly at home.

About Color Contacts

There are two sides

Basically, there’s a back and front of a contact lens. When it’s on the back side, the edges of the contact are curved outward when viewed from the side. When it’s on its front side, the outside of the contact is inside when viewed from the side, forming a beautiful semicircle. If you make a mistake on the front and back, your contacts will fall off when you blink, or your eyes will feel uncomfortable, so remember to keep that in mind!

How to wear

How to wear contacts varies from person to person, but simply put, it’s not scary to put them in the whites of your eyes then face forward. They say it’s scary because you can see your fingers and the whites of your eyes don’t have eyesight, so you can finish where you can’t see it!

Check the front and back and put it on the tip of your finger

After checking the front and back of the contacts, place them on the tip of your finger to avoid damaging the contacts. It’s a good idea to place the center of the contact on the “most protruding part” of the fingertip.

Open your eyes tightly

When wearing contacts, your eyes should be firmly fixed with your fingers and kept open, so they don’t close. At first, you may blink out of reflex, but if you close your eyes, the contacts will hit your eyelids and turn them upside down, making you unable to wear them properly.

Look away

It’s best if you look directly at the contacts when applying them. For beginners however, you can look left or right, put a colored contact on the whites of your eyes, then return them to the center.

Bad examples

If they’re too downward when you put them in, they’ll hit your eyelashes.

Recommended training

If you’re worried about putting something in your eyes, it’s recommended to practice with eye drops, which many people aren’t good at. If you get used to it without closing your eyes the moment you put the eye drops in, you’ll be able to put on the contacts a bit more smoothly.

*There are individual differences, so if you don’t get a good fit, please find a practice method that suits you.

If you put them in your eyes, let them blend in

Once the contacts are successfully attached to your eyes, try moving your eyes from side to side without blinking immediately. This will help the contacts fit well, so they don’t fall off even if you blink.

The contact never leaves your fingers!

A common problem is when the lens sticks to your fingers due to the moisture in your fingers and your contacts drying out. It’s dangerous to try wetting them with tap water, so avoid doing so! To properly wet them again, apply the liquid that came with the contacts or a cleaning solution prepared separately

Finally…

Contacts always have a period of use, so be sure to stick to that period before using them! Also, if you feel any abnormalities in your eyes, see an ophthalmologist or remove your contacts to enjoy cosplay while protecting your eyes!
